In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at combating the opioid crisis among unstably housed individuals, MobexHealth Community Kiosks have been successfully utilized to connect homeless patrons with critical healthcare services. This innovative approach leverages the accessibility of public locations to provide essential opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment, including buprenorphine, to a vulnerable population that often faces significant barriers to healthcare.

The opioid epidemic has disproportionately affected unstably housed individuals, who are at a heightened risk of overdose and face numerous obstacles in accessing conventional healthcare services. Libraries and community centers, which are frequented by this population, offer a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and those in need. The study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining in-person visits with telehealth follow-ups. Participants were divided into two groups: The Telehealth Arm, which received an initial in-person consultation followed by telehealth follow-ups, and the Control Arm, which only received the initial in-person visit without subsequent telehealth support.

 The findings from the study highlight the significant impact of incorporating telehealth services into the treatment regimen. Participants in the Telehealth Arm were twice as likely to begin buprenorphine treatment compared to those in the Control Arm. Additionally, individuals in the Telehealth Arm were 2.5 times more likely to attend multiple medical visits, underscoring the effectiveness of continuous remote support.
